Host a themed party, and if you have pets at home, be sure to know which treats are safe to feed and which ones are strictly off-limits. This pet-safe treat list covers dogs, cats, and rabbits, so you can use it right at your gathering
✅ Safe treat swap chart
- Dogs: plain canned pumpkin with no seasoning, baby carrots, green beans, chicken boiled in water. Pumpkin serving guide: 1–2 tablespoons per 4.5kg of body weight
- Cats: chicken or turkey boiled in water, a small amount of pumpkin puree. Cats are carnivores, so choose meat-based treats first
- Rabbits: leafy greens, carrot tops, small carrot pieces, hay cubes. Skip sugary fruit on party day
❌ Never feed (toxic blacklist) Chocolate, raisins, grapes, onions, garlic, macadamia nuts, alcohol, coffee, and any sweets containing xylitol are toxic to cats and dogs if eaten. Candy wrappers and lollipop sticks can easily cause intestinal blockages. Always keep the candy bowl out of your pet's reach
📋 5 safety rules for party day
- If your pet has an underlying health condition, check with your vet before feeding
- Portion everything in advance and use only 100% pure canned pumpkin, never pumpkin pie filling
- Set up a separate treat bowl for your pet, away from the candy area
- Set aside a quiet room, since the doorbell can easily stress your pet out
- Before guests arrive, put all wrappers into a sealed trash can
