Halloween is a folk holiday on October 31. Families in the West usually start decorating and putting on costumes in the evening, go trick-or-treating after dark, and adults often attend parties. It comes from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain and, being adjacent to All Saints' Day on November 1, gradually evolved into what it is today.
